The HistoryMakers seeks to hire full-time Researcher to complete in-depth research on the history of blacks in business. Those hired must have a background in business and/or economics and African-American, and social history. The researcher will be responsible for:

Experience

The candidate must have a master’s degree in economics, business or the history of American business and/or enterprise or a related degree and must possess strong administrative (type 65 wpm) and organizational skills and be a very strong researcher/writer, adept at proofreading and able to multi-task. Prior experience with detailed paper file and desktop management, being able to do focused work for long periods of time, maturity of intent and the ability to demonstrate his/her interest in furthering The HistoryMakers mission and growth a must.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conducting in-depth background research on various subject matters to create in-depth chronological timelines that average 100+ pages outlining the contributions of African-Americans in the area of business from the first contributor to the present as well as other reference sources and compiling a list of reference materials.
  • Conducting in-depth background research on selected African-Americans to locate their contact information and biographical information prior to interviews using the Internet and online resources.
  • Preparing detailed research outlines as well as long, short biographies and short descriptions in accordance with The HistoryMakers guidelines.
  • Performing data entry using The HistoryMakers FileMaker Pro database as well as scanning documents and organizing them in archival folders after the interview is completed.
