This hour-long, one-on-one interview program provided a rare and insightful look into the remarkable life and career of theatrical director Chuck Smith. Fox Chicago’s Robin Robinson interviewed Smith on February 6, 2006 about his important contribution to the history of black theatre in Chicago.
The HistoryMakers and the Goodman Theatre collaborated for this special program. Throughout the interview, Smith introduced scenes from several of his favorite directorial works. They were brought to life by Chicago’s Congo Square Theatre, under the direction of Derrick Sanders as stage vignettes.
The program began with a special guest appearance by Chicago native, actor Harry J. Lennix, Goodman Theatre Board Chair Les Coney, and Founder & Executive Director of The HistoryMakers, Julieanna L. Richardson. Lennix was one of many actors who was influenced by Smith.
