Radio personality and entrepreneur Angela Yee was born on January 3, 1976, in Brooklyn, New York. She received her B.A. degree in English in 1997 from Wesleyan University, in Middletown, Connecticut.
Yee became an intern at Wu-Tang Management in 1996, and assistant to the CEO, Divine, in 1997. During this time, she worked in artist management for artists including 360, GZA, and Jay Electronica. Yee then worked at Shady Limited, a clothing company owned by Paul Rosenberg and rapper Eminem. In 2005, Yee became a co-host of The Cipha Sounds Effect show on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Shade 45 Channel. She also worked as a correspondent on the MTV/MTV2 show Sucker Free in 2006. Yee began hosting The Breakfast Club morning show with Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy in 2010 on WWPR-FM Power 105. In 2013, she was a cast member on the VH1 reality show The Gossip Game. Yee’s podcast Lip Service premiered in 2015. In 2016, Yee and co-host DJ Envy opened a juice bar in Brooklyn, New York. In 2017, she founded Angela Yee’s Book Club. She became a BSE Global Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement (DICE) Ambassador in 2019. Yee launched a specialty coffee brand, Coffee Uplifts People (CUP), in 2020, and opened its first brick-and-mortar store in Brooklyn in 2021. She became the host of the television show Established with Angela Yee in 2020. Yee has appeared on television shows including Dave, First Wives Club, The Gossip Game, Queens, and Empire.
Yee serves on the board of the American Foundation for the University of the West Indies. In 2013, she joined the organization Dress for Success.
In 2014, The Breakfast Club won the New York State Broadcasters Association’s Outstanding On-Air Broadcast Personality or Team Award. Yee was named the first ambassador for the New York Public Library in 2016. She received the iHeartRadio Urban Personality of the Year Award in 2017. In 2018, Yee received the Vice Chancellor’s Achievement Award from the University of the West Indies. In 2018, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio declared August 28, 2018, Angela Yee Day. In 2019, Yee received the Gracie Award from the Alliance for Women in Media. The Breakfast Club was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in August 2020 alongside its hosts, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God, and DJ Envy. In 2020, Yee also was the recipient of the Airblazer Award from the Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio (MIW) Group and the Gracie Award from the Alliance for Women in Media.
